Our
Story

How Did We Get Here?

Before deciding to provide cancer resources, our team knew that we wanted to help the cancer community. We used the design thinking process to figure out how we could positively impact cancer families.

First, we had to define the problem we wanted to solve. In order to find the problem, we interviewed cancer patients, oncologists, state workers, and many others. A major issue we learned was that cancer families weren't taking advantage of the existing resources available to them. From the oncology doctors, we found that there were resources out there, but they weren't being utilized by patients for an unknown reason.

We then had to brainstorm ways that we could bridge the cancer resource gap. Around this time, we also realized that we also wanted to focus on helping the kids through their parents' cancer treatment. So we decided to do both. Our team decided the best way forward was to create a website to run our information distribution, as well as give local kids a chance to get outside and learn new skills or subjects.

What are we working on currently?

Currently, we are working on spreading Living Stage 5 in the local Folsom and El Dorado Hills area. So far we have done pushes for more awareness of Living Stage 5 by hanging posters in local businesses, medical offices, or mail boxes and sharing our events and services on social media. If you have any recommendations for Living Stage 5's improvement or recommendations feel free to contact us. Living Stage 5 is an organization for the cancer community, ran by the cancer community.

We have also been organizing events like the Living Stage 5 Pool Day at the Folsom Aquatic Center and seeing the interest for field days or lake days for kids to come out and have fun. If you have any event recommendations feel free to email us at livingstage5@gmail.com

A major obstacle we have encountered is the creation of an organization bank account to better organize online donations. We have been in close contact with UCSF's Helen Diller Family Cancer Center, American Cancer Society, and Bayside Church to find a solution. If you have any information that can assist Living Stage 5 in this challenge feel free to contact us.
